Are you breaking up your perennial garden/plants in the Central Connecticut area? I would be very interested in providing a good home for your Hostas, Black-eyed Susans, Cannas, etc. At 56 have worked too hard and have not spent enough time 'smelling the roses". About 3 years ago I had reason to slow down and was "bitten" by the gardening bug and have developed a deep passion for it. . I am on a mission to populate my new garden with beautiful plants and flowers without going broke and before a progressive and ultimately disabling neurological illlness makes it difficult if not impossible.

Perennial Garden plants..which are best for a narrow area? I am planning to plant some perennials in a narrow garden along a walkway to our front door. It's only about 2 feet wide and the house next door is quite close. What would look good in this situation? It is mostly sunny. That's the problem..I'm not sure what would look good. We'd like privacy between us and the next home, but I don't want it to look "tacky"
How do you take care of outdoor plants in winter? I am no expert when it comes to gardening. This spring, I accidentally locked myself out of the house and, having nothing better to do till my husband got home and let me in, I went to walmart and bought a bunch of gardening supplies, and planted a flower bed in our front yard. That one bed has progressed into pots, and hanging plants in our front and back yard, and now that cold weather is on its way, I realize that I have no idea how to take care of plants in the winter. Can I just leave them out? will they just die off and come back next spring? I can take my potted ones inside, but what about the ones in beds, are there any precautions I need to take, or will they be ok? We live in south Texas, so it should not get too cold, but it has been known to freeze here. I have various wildflowers and other garden plants in beds, Amaryllis and Calla Lilly, Impatiens, and a small Kumquat tree in pots. Is there any kind of maintenance I need to do to them over the winter?
Gardening Question. What are the clear round balls on my plants.? I just recently noticed that there were some clear round balls all over my baby grape vines. These are very small, about the size of the ball in ball point pen. They are very lightly stuck to the plants vines and I want to be sure they aren't some form of pest. Please let me know if anyone is aware of what this might be. Feel free to send me a message on messenger as well. Thanks in advance.

How do I create a flower garden around a tree? I am a beginner in gardening and planting? I have an old tree in front of my home. I like to add a flower bed around the tree, but I am new to planting and gardening. Also, my lawn needs a lot of care. Last year my husband tilled part of our lawn and we replanted new grass, but our lawn looks very unhealty with a lot of try, burned like spots. What can I do to have a healthy lawn, and how do I go about creating my flower bed around the tree. I like to put a border around the tree like a small wall maybe. What do I do with my plants during a freeze warning? After weeks of nice weather, my area is under a freeze warning for tonight. My garden plants are looking really good, though, and I don't want them to die. What do I do? In my garden, I have: Tulips Wygelia and spirea bushes Irises Day lilies Hostas Phlox Lamb's ear Rose of Sharon (but it isn't doing anything yet) All of them were planted last summer, so they're not very big. Should I cover some of them? All of them?
What is a "green" way to keep pests off of plants? My Dad grew some tomatoes, cucumbers, and chili peppers, but often had to use bug spray to kill and keep all kinds of insects away. What is a non-toxic solution I could buy or make to use on our garden plants, that will kill/ keep the bugs away, yet not harm the plants themselves? I like the various suggestions. I am going to let this go to voting.

garden plants. my bedding has been filled with sivved topsoil. this is fine i think but? the soil is very compact all the way down to 4 foot. when planting my bulbs i loosened the topsoil. they have come through now but are very very slowly growing. My question is, am i being impacient or are they growing slowly because of the time it takes the roots to grow through the compact soil below?????? thanks for your answer, does the compaction of the soil affect the growing rate or should it not matter wether the soil is fine and loose. thats my question, sorry if i put it the wrong way.

how far apart should i place my plants when companion gardening? i have decided to do the companion gardening this year but everything i have read about it doesnt say how far to space the plants. can anyone help? for example i have 10 tomatoe and 10 pepper in one section, peppers are suppose to be planted 1 ft apart tomatoes 3 ft apart, would i plant my tomatoes 3 ft apart then in between those plant my peppers? The one site i did find that talked about spacing had an equation to go by and i couldnt figure it out. is there an easier way? i have 20 beefsteak tomatoes and 10 super sweet 100 hybrid tomatoes. i have 10 hot pepper mix (anaheim, long red slim cayenne, serrano chili, hungarian wax and jalapeno), 10 sweet long pepper mix (corno di toro and sweet bananna) and 10 bell pepper plants. i figure on putting 10 tomatoes per 10 peppers in a 12x5 patch of ground. i am also planning on mixing cucumbers and corn in a patch and mixing potatoes and bush beans in a patch and then garlic, lettuce, carrots and onions in another patch. i plan on mixing sunflowers in with corn and cucumbers and then putting marigolds , Nasturtiums and Geraniums evenly all around 26x26 garden space. i have a garden plan mapped out on paper if it would be helpful.
Garden Plants? My son lives in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire. His birthday is next month and he has asked me to take him to a local garden centre and buy him some plants to stock his ragged garden. The garden is east facing (so sunny, but also not that warm), he doesn't know what soil he has (acid, alkaline, chalky, etc) and i need to find some easy, low-maintenance plants for him, but also something with a bit of colour. I am compiling a list from the huge RHS book, but can anyone help me make that list a bit longer? Also, if i can't get them from a garden centre, what is a good website to order from? Thank you all SO much for responding to this question. I have extended it for 4 days. Have made a long list, and also tried to email all respondents. Am very grateful. Bless you all. Barry.
Which small, common or garden plants eat the most CO2? Should mention that I live in UK and have very little garden space so trees aren't appropriate. Am trying to offset my own carbon footprint and wondered which plants are the most carbon hungry. Thanks for the answers so far guys, some interesting stuff for me to mull over. What prompted me to ask was an article I read regarding a form of algae that apparently became so widespread several thousands of years ago that it contributed to the start of the last ice-age, such was it's co2 guzzling ability. Got me wondering if it, or any of it's "ancestors" still exist.
