Garden design? Hi, doe's anybody know of a free program i can use to get layout and design ideas for my garden? iv'e tried the bbc program but it's very limited, would be very grateful for any help
What is a good name for a garden design company? I am starting a company to help people design and refresh their gardens and landscapes. My services will include planning out their garden, helping them select plants at the nursery, and then helping them keep their yard green and healthy. I'm thinking of a name with "-- Scenes" or "-- Scapes" in it, but I'm open to any ideas. I am near the coast and specialize in plants that do well there. I love the name Gardenscapes but it is already taken. Thanks much!

If I wanted to go into landscaping for a career, would majoring in Garden Design help me? I've always enjoyed working outside with the earth and plants. I thought about becoming a Landscaper for awhile but now I'm into computers. Just tonight I saw at this College's website that I am thinking about going to, they have a major for Garden Design. Does that help with becoming a landscaper for a business like that?

Where can I find a free garden design website?? I am a cheapstake...yes I know. But why pay when there is a chance to get something for free. I want to do a 3D design (2D if I am asking for the impossible) of the garden of my dreams but the software is so damn expensive. Anyone know any good sites?? I have had a few landscapers out to look at the garden but can't seem to get accross to them just what I want it like, and my artistic flare is non-existant and the drawings I try to do look really naff. Bamboo/cane shade for roof garden - design ideas? Hello, I am planning to build a bamboo/cane-shade in my roof garden (or rather pay someone to to it :) I am looking for ideas... I'd like the shade to cover only part of the roof area to provide shade in summer (summers in Malta can be very hot!). The shade has to stand strong wind, sun and rain and be aesthetically pleasing. Can anyone recommend a company in Glasgow who do mono blocking and/or garden design? I'm looking for a company near Glasgow to do our driveway and I was going to go with mono block. What should I be asking these companies so I don't get ripped off? Also we want to landscape our back garden which has a steep downwards slope. We thought decking straight out over it was the best solution. Any other ideas? We would need to put up an 8ft fence if we go for decking. Do you need planning permission for that? Garden design advice please? I was asked to design a small garden, mostly influenced by zen gardens. The site is shaped like a triangle, and there's bamboo on one of the corners. However, the owners don't want sand or gravel because they have dogs, and the site doesn't seem to be apt for a zen garden (there's a Mexican fountain and a cross), so I thought about using some big rocks, tall ferns (similar to lady ferns), santolina and salvia. Santolina mostly to resemble the color of gravel, and salvia because I like the scent and the purple flowers somewhat resemble Japanese cherry blossoms. Do you have any other recommendations? Thanks for the advice.

Can someone help me design a garden on my gravel patch....? We have a sunken hole we want to turn into a 'garden' of some kind. ...the land is very high at the rear of our house so its basically just a big hole in the ground with scrubby grass sides! NOT very pretty - we work from home so expect to have lots of visitors this summer - here are photos - http://myauctionpix.com/membertemplate.php?a_id=1321&bg_id=25....it has to stay gravelled as its also drainage for the whole garden/paddock that slopes into it (thats the concrete well on the right ) - under the gravel is drainage pipes - I'd love a paved area for a gazebo & maybe some kind of water feature - maybe also an american style stone BBQ table with seating area etc - we have a TON of stone as you can see so we can build walls and all sorts for nothing - if you have any ideas i would be grateful as i have NO idea what to do with this area? ( btw - the patio will have wooden rails in a few days so that wil be more 'finished' too....thankyou so much - i really need some inspiration !

What tools do I need to know to start a landscape and gardening design business? Years ago I worked in a amateur way in gardening maintenance. I realice that I liked it a lot but I don't have the specific knoledge and experience to start a landscape and gardening design business. I have the feeling that I have the creativity for doing this but of course this is not all. Could someone help me telling me the kind of tools that I would require to start this gradually? garden design inspiration and plants recommendations? we have space to fill with some interesting plants (about 1.5m x 2.5m) by a south facing wall (sunny place, soil quality probably not very good). i'd like to plant some interesting and hardy grasses and shrubs and maybe some climbers. i want to create an interesting feature in our little garden with nice contrasting colours and textures. the plants should ideally be decorative all year round and shouldn't need watering. can you recommend any plants or a good website that features photos and descriptions or even some ideas how to group the plants to get some nice effects? most websites i've seen give only lists of plants (no good if you don't know them). any tips will be appreciated!

Can house/garden design help prevent bush fires spreading? Too hard to chose a best answer, thank you excellent answers again from everybody. I have learned a lot from your answers everyone. In summary we need to look at all sorts of issues, including how our houses actually contribute to Global Warming so we need to redesign them, we need to have better forest management to prevent forest fires spreading. How digging a moat, or planting appropriate fire resistant plants can prevent fire, or how some plants may even contribute to the risk.
